The Yay avatar fad started in early March 2007. A two-color picture of a round cartoony head with eyes rolled back and a demented expression was provided, and the picture was edited to depict various MFGGers.

The avatar has been modified to an emoticon used by several MFGGers in the past, and is used in certain situations from time to time. It's meaning is generally described as "making a mistake" or "I'm oblivious."

It's very similar to Awesomeface.
